Shooting Script

Feedback

Once I had finished the scripts I sent them off to be reviewed and then from the feedback i would make any changes to the scripts that had to be made. However after thoroughly reviewing my script I received a reply telling me that no problem had been spotted during the review therefore i would not have to make any changes to either of the scripts before i began finalising the scripts.

Task1: Researching Scripts

Radio Drama Script

Style & Format:

A radio drama script is more exact than other types of script for example in other types of script it would say NIGHT or DAY after the location of the shot whereas in a radio script it says MORNING, MIDDAY, EVENING AND NIGHT. Radio drama scripts are also a lot more basic compared to other scripts in a radio drama script there is no INT. or EXT. this is because they are no visuals in radio how ever there will be a short description of the place for example in the script above its 'KITCHEN', also in radio drama scripts there is not much more than dialogue on occasion there will be sound effects for example in the script above there is; 'F/X KNIFE ON CHOPPING BOARD - CHOP' using sound effects allows dialogue to be split up as well as keeping the listener informed on the location or the story line in the show

Content:

The content within a radio drama is very minimal and simple, it is mainly a two or more people having a conversation with the occasional sound effect such as 'JUICER SOUND - WHIZZZZZZZ' to remind the listener of the location of the drama and really creating a accurate picture of the scene in the listeners head. Radio scripts do not give details of the characters in the scene this allows the listeners to create their own opinions on the characters involved in the drama.

Narrative Structure:

In a Radio script like in other scripts there is a structure a beginning, middle, end and then sometimes there can be a twist, in the script displayed above the beginning is Dave coming down from a night out last night, the middle is Dave's girlfriend/wife Sarah getting angry and questioning Dave on what had happened the night before when he stayed out until the early hours of the next morning, the end is Sarah blending a drink up taking advantage of Dave's headache to punish him and in this script there is a twist which is that Sarah had blended up Daves money and then makes Dave drink the drink.

Genre:

The genre is a drama but in some cases can have a touch of comedy within them. In radio scripts the genre is set by how the actors display there voice using different tones of voice to display different feelings and emotions, as well as this the sound effects used can influence a genre because the listener can visualise a emotion for example in the script above the chopping sound used create the feeling of anger within Sarah and the listener can visualise the increasing anger of Sarah as she does it more frequent when talking to Simon about the events of the night before.

Target Audience:

The script displayed above was aired on BBC Radio 4 which has a main audience of the older generation as well as this radio dramas has a big target audience of blind people who can't watch TV so listen to radio dramas and visualise the situation going on.

TV Comedy Sketch

Style & Format:

In TV comedy scripts the start of a scene is marked which a slug line this is something that indicates the location of the scene and what part of the day it is for example 'INT. HIGH TEC ROBOTICS LAB - DAY' in slug lines there is INT which stands for interior which means this scene is inside for example in a house as well as this there is also EXT this stands for exterior this indicates the scene is set in a outside location for example in a forest or on a street. When a character is first introduced into the script their name is capitalised and if ever mentioned again it is lower case accept when they are speaking the names of people that are speaking are also in capitals these names are also centralised. When writing a TV comedy sketch the writer will always do it in the font 'Courier New' in size 12.

Content:

A TV comedy script starts of with a slug line introduces the location and when the scene is set as we mentioned above in the format, after this there is a instruction for the camera man for example 'M.S SHOULDER VIEW of Derek' the main camera shot is capitalised and underlined these instructions are only put in when the shooting script is produced, this instruction is usually linked to a small piece of text indicates the characters in the scene and if its the first time we have met the character a little something about them and what they are doing for example 'DEREK a 40 year old man who is sat at the bar', following this information is the dialogue if it is necessary  in between the dialogue can be more actions for example in the script displayed above one of them is 'the male scientist removes the plastic sheet so john can see more clearly'.

Narrative Structure:

Like every script TV comedy scripts are split up into the beginning, middle and end in the future cop script the middle is john being woken up by the male and female scientists the middle is john being told he is the future of the law enforcement and in the end is John completely failing at his main purpose. Usually in TV comedy scripts the comedy is saved to the end and future cop is no different although there comedy all the way through for example john being covered in cardboard boxes the main part that is meant to make people laugh is the end when the future of law enforcement completely fails and the cardboard boxes are thrown out the warehouse. Usually  in comedy scripts there is something to finish the sketch off for example a phrase by a certain character this is called a punchline.

Genre:

The genre of the comedy scripts is in the name they are made to make the viewer laugh but usually do not last more than 2-3 minutes they will usually be in a show which shows around 10 sketches per show. The characters in these sketches are usually stereotypes of people and the plot of the sketch usually is taking the mic out of recent issues.

Target Audience:

There are mixed viewers of a comedy sketch because some of the shows include swearing and inappropriate themes for a younger audience therefor targeting a more mature audience but other shows are suitable for all types of people.

Short Film Script

Style & Format

The style of a short film is very similar to a TV comedy script as when characters are first introduced their names will be capitals but if they are mentioned after this it will be in lower case except when they are talking but short films are very different in the way they are more descriptive about the surroundings of the scene as well as the characters involved. in film scripts it is indicated that the scene has moved location but the time of day is relatively the same for example in the film script above 'A FEW MINUTES LATER' is used to indicated even know they have changed the location of the scene the time of day is pretty much the same. Short film scripts also include transitions between each scenes for example the use of 'DISSOLVE TO' in the script above.

Content

A script like this must be simple but at the same time be descriptive of characters and locations so the producers know exactly what kind of people they need to hire for example when introducing characters into the script they will also have a brief description for example in the script above it says 'MARIAN PETERSON, a Gray-haired women in her late sixties'  this helps the producers of the film to imagine what type of person Marian is before reading the whole script.

Narrative Structure

The narrative structure of short films have clear beginnings, a middle and a end and it is the same in the script showed above 'my mother dreams the Satan's disciples in new york' the beginning is a women 'Marian' who lives on a south dakotan farm coming to visit her daughter in new york city, the middle is Marian worried about the area her daughter lives in especially a group known as 'Satan's Disciples' at the end its Marian finiding out that Satans Disciples aren't bad people and she becomes friends with them.

Genre

The genre of the script sbove is mainly drama yet there is some comedy parts within it with the end being that a unusual relationship is formed between the bikers and a 60 year old women, but before this its a women who has recently become a widdow visiting her daughter and fearing the city which she lives in.

Target Audience

Due to the age of the characters in the film and more mature themes this film is aimed toward a more older audience.
